Pain and Pain Relief

Are You Ready to Try a "New-Old"
Approach to Pain?

Who amongst us has not had some sort of pain? Pain can result from many different factors, such as, stress, accidents, post surgery, repetitive strain, emotional distress, depression, fibromyalgia, herpes zoster, arthritis and the list goes on. Pain, whether acute or chronic, robs us of vitality, social, and sexual interaction. We will be exploring both western and eastern approaches in the field of pain management.

In traditional western medicine, acute and chronic pain is treated with over the counter meds like Tylenol, Advil, and Motrin or prescription drugs such as an anti-inflammatory, cortisone, opionoids and or a variety of depressants. All of these medications can be very effective, but the body becomes dependant as a result of a feedback response. Here is what happens. Our bodies naturally produce endorphins [pain relievers]. When the body receives prolonged external pain relievers like any of those listed above, the body, by way of a feedback response, will decrease and even stop producing its own endorphins. This situation leads to drug tolerance, drug addiction and drug misuse. In addition, these drugs come with some serious side effects. These effects include respiratory distress, depression, nausea, constipation, damage to the liver and gastric bleeding to name a few. And you must be careful to consider the negative interaction of drugs with each other and alcohol?
