Chinese Medicine
What is Chinese Medicine?Chinese medicine has been practiced for over 5000 years. This form of healthcare successfully serves over one quarter of the world’s population. It is a complete medical system that diagnoses, treats and prevents illness. It can increase one’s stamina, capacity for pleasure and creativity, and it assists in creating a strong immune system. The scope of Chinese Medicine encompasses different modalities. These include Acupuncture, Herbs, Qigong [exercise], Tuina [massage], moxibustion [heat therapy], cupping and gua sha.
The Chinese medicine philosophy differs substantially from that of Western medicine; yet both of these approaches are valuable and complementary. Western Medicine excels with intervention when crisis arises. Chinese Medicine is beneficial not only for crisis intervention, but it is also a framework for preventative care.
These days, we live at an increasingly fast pace, often struggling against the demands of family, work and lifestyle. Over time, these challenging demands can stress one’s body and emotional state to its limits. The result is exhaustion, and decreased immunity causing physical illness and, often, anxiety and/or depression. Gaining awareness of how lifestyle impacts health, and then restoration of balance, is essential to restoring health. This is the mandate of Chinese Medicine.
The World Health Organization recognizes and endorses Chinese Medicine in the treatment of many common health concerns. Below is a list of some of these ailments:
